Event Details

Dir. Derek Jarman, UK 1991  |  90 minutes, DVD  |  Certificate 15

To celebrate the 450th anniversary of the playwright Christopher Marlowe's birth, we bring you a magical screening of EDWARD II inside the church where Marlowe is buried.

When King Edward II takes a male lover, Piers Gaveston, both his wife (Tilda Swinton) and palace officials are enraged - and plot to dethrone the king and dispatch Gaveston. Adapted by the radical British filmmaker Derek Jarman, the film contrasts the lavish 16th century text & setting with modern imagery of gay activists, riot police, yuppies - and an unforgettable cameo from Annie Lennox.

The screening is hosted by St Nicholas Church in Deptford, where Marlowe was buried following his murder in 1593. Expect an experience accompanied by music, wine and two special guests!

Please show us your ticket on the door, either printed or on your mobile device.
