Event description

Description

Synopsis: This lecture will showcase the findings of two EEFIT funded research projects carried out at University College London. Both projects have produced guidance for those involved in field work and these guides will be fully explained. The projects are:

Assessing the viability of drones and omni-directional imagery with virtual reality tools in post-earthquake reconnaissance missions

Harriette Stone of University College London has explored the extent to which drones and omni-directional imagery with virtual reality tools can aid data collection, reduce risk to surveyors, and improve the effectiveness of surveying on reconnaissance missions. She has produced a practical guide on this for use in the field for future missions. The full project report is available here.

Measuring Recovery: signposts to good practice

Laura Howlett of University College London has identified and described some of the effective methods and tools for measuring and assessing post-disaster recovery in the built environment (re: shelter and local infrastructure). Her project also looked at the resources, capacities and skills needed to use these methods and tools effectively. Laura has produced a short guide to selected key guidance and resources on this topic. The final guidance document is available here.

This lecture is brought to you by the UK Earthquake Engineering Field Investigation Team (www.eefit.org.uk ) which is serviced by the Institution of Structural Engineers.

Non-members of EEFIT are welcome to attend.
