About this Event
EMPOWERING EARLY YEARS - NEW ONLINE CPD TRAINING:
‘ENABLING GROSS MOTOR & SENSORY SKILL DEVELOPMENT WITHIN THE SETTING
(0-3years - Babies and Toddlers)’
(NB: Plus the absolute importance of this in light of the Covid 19 pandemic and children's holistic developmental needs for later thriving and learning.)
(Live online session, with pre-event reflective practitioner pack and course notes pre-reading, plus CPD certificate upon completion).
***************************************************************************
The course is designed to support overall physical and mental wellbeing within children's holistic development, starting from babies upwards and will emphasise the importance of GROSS MOTOR PHYSICAL AND SENSORY-SYSTEM LINKED skills, to support later behaviour, lower stress reactions and enable children to thrive and learn, especially in light of factors relating to the impact of COVID 19 pandemic.
Led by experienced Associate Lecturer (BA Hons - Professional Development/ FdA Early Childhood) , EY Trainer and Early Years Teacher Hannah O’Donnell (EEY), this NEW ONLINE EARLY YEARS CPD workshop for all those working with BABIES and TODDLERS (additional date to focus on preschool and reception +), looks at the importance of supporting and developing key gross motor physical and sensory skills in young children (0-3 years) within settings and nurseries through enhanced child-led play provision and reflexive practice based on the unique child, in order to aid healthy brain and body development.
GM skill development improves outcomes in early writing/ mark making , emergent literacy associated skills, PSED skills (self-care and independence, potential for regulation capacity etc), greater physical and mental wellbeing and is shown through masses of research to be highly related to long term academic and social outcomes across all key subject areas.
This NEW course, will blend refreshed elements of previous Gross Motor Skill training - looking at core skills children need to develop through play , the role of Enabling EY environments, up-cycled EY practice to support these skills and the unique child, as well as underpinning this with new research . Plus, there will also be an additional focus on essential sensory skill development through play and experiences, which can then potentially enhance overall brain and body development for ALL children and ultimately lead to enabling children to better attend, regulate (esp where a sensory issue may exist), show better memory skills, problem solve and develop key emotional skills for life and learning.
In addition, the workshop will focus on easy, cost-effective ideas for differentiating physical skill-based continuous provision areas and child-led play practice, in order to provide a solid foundation upon which to improve outcomes for all young children (0-3) in major developmental areas of learning and development - literacy and writing.
Course Synopsis: What will Early Years practitioners, teachers & those working with 0-3 age group get out of this workshop?
(suitable for L2 upwards - it aims to cover material from L2 to L6/ BA +)
• A greater understanding of neurological - cognitive- physical development (healthy brains) in young children as they uniquely grow, through simple explanation of the brain/ body and sensory systems link, how this links to attachments, play opportunities and environments.
• An in-depth look at the key Gross Motor and sensory skills necessary for healthy development and how these link to later skills of reading, self-care, socio-emotional awareness, writing and attention etc.
• Key GM skills analysis and understanding of how to enable these in play provision, practice and environments, to develop - Bilateral integration, crossing the midline, core strength &rotation, arm and leg strength, proprioception, the vestibular system and balance.
• Plus a very basic understanding of the existence and potential impact of retained primitive reflexes in young children, within unengaging or unchallenging environments.
• A practical understanding of how core play and sensory provision in the EY environment, in the absence of an adult can facilitate, challenge and differentiate for the development of key gross motor physical skills necessary for a range of ages within the 0-3 age group.
• Some cost effective ideas for developing play provision and supporting reflective practice for practitioners, which may enable children to develop these key skills, as well as lots of information to take away and support planning/ ideas for engagement and enhancements, plus supporting parents with key knowledge about the benefits of GM skills in play to support overall wellbeing, development and outcomes for all children.
• Consideration of some of the main factors negatively affecting healthy gross motor development such as low-risk environments, increased use of technology, poor attachments, lack of outdoor play/free play and disruptions in sensory processing.
What do I get?
• Full workshop notes PRE ONLINE session, plus POST ONLINE SESSION ( as well as key references and suggested reading based on the workshop), the ONLINE SESSION plus Q and A, Practitioner Reflective pack around developing GM and Sensory skills within young children and a CPD certificate of completion.

'Great for simple ideas.'
‘Thanks very much for the intense and informative training you provided earlier this month, I can see these issues everywhere now!’
‘Thank you so much for last night’s training, it was very valuable. As a class teacher I have had some of this training over the years, but it is so interesting and things are always changing so it was very valuable to go over it, plus learn some new bits'
We were presented with current up to date research into best and desirable practice with underlying child development information which put everything into context.'
'Very cost effective for single delegates in that the very low charge will have a high impact on provision and more so once cascade training is disseminated. I have been on 2 courses and would definitely attend further sessions.'
'Promotes new ideas and gets you thinking about your own setting.'
'I've come away with knowledge I can implement straight into practice as well as my studies.'
'It exceeded expectation as it was very informative and there were really useful handouts which suggested further reading and research.'
'I would recommend it as colleagues do not always appreciate the importance of play to learning.'
'Very enthusiastic and lots of really useful information!'
We look forward to welcoming you soon.
