Effective Governance Workshop Series
To celebrate Trustees' Week 2016 we are running a series of governance workshops. The aim of the workshops is to understand the importance of good governance, how to comply with legislation and regulation and how to maintain an effective board.
The workshops will be delivered as two evening sessions on November 8th and 10th. They are structured on the expectation that participants will attend both sessions.
The first workshop will cover:
- What is effective trusteeship?
Exploring Trustees responsibilities, legal concepts and best practice through examples.
- Is your charity ready to carry out its purposes for the public benefit?
Explaining what makes a charity and the importance of the charity status, particularly from a taxation point of view. They will also consider charitable structures to enable delegates to understand what kind of organisation they are part of and how this affects what they can do and how they operate.
- How do you choose the right structure for your charity?
- How do you ensure your charity is compliant?
Exploring the legislation and regulations and how to not fall foul to them. Explaining the risk register and using examples to identify the common risks for charities and any additional risks your organisation may face.
- How to remain compliant with other laws and regulations relevant to your charity’s activities
The second workshop will cover:
- How do you make effective decisions?
How to achieve cohesion and what to do in difficult circumstances.
- How do you make sure you always act with reasonable care and skill?
Defining what is reasonable care, what skills should your board possess and when to take external advice.
- How do you generate the funds your charity needs to operate?
The fundraising options available, the pros and cons of each and also the new fundraising legislative and regulatory control.
There will also be the opportunity to have a short discussion on any particular problems and questions from and between delegates before we finish.
Refreshments will kindly be provided by hlw Keeble Hawson.
