Event Details

For managers involved in the homeless assessment process. Build on your communication skills to ensure the time you have to make an assessment is productive and positive.

Local Authority teams have limited time to engage with people experiencing, or at risk of, homelessness. It’s vital that they make best use of their interactions in order to build trust, identify key issues, collect information and agree actions. We recognise that staff will be using communication skills every day, so this session is an opportunity to consolidate those skills and to reflect on practice.

This course covers effective communication in a Local Authority setting, including personal preparation, power dynamics, communication strategies, and the psychological impact of physical environments. It provides an introduction to positive, solution-focused communication.

Who is this course for?

Managers involved in the homeless assessment process.

What will you learn?

By the end of the course, participants will be able to:

  • Describe the elements of effective communication
  • Apply strategies for positive communication and influencing
  • Review their personal skills and areas for development
  • Use solution-focused approaches
  • Identify barriers to effective communication in their workplace
  • Review their working environment from a psychologically informed perspective

There is no charge to attend.

Light refreshments will be provided, however delegates will be required to supply their own lunch.

Tickets are restricted to primarily Housing Options Managers within Local Authorities, with a more restricted number of places available to managers from voluntary sector organisations.

Unfortunately staff from organisations based in
London or the South East of England are not eligible for this free programme of training on this occassion, and will need to access these courses from our main programme of training.

Places are limited, so in the case of needing to cancel your place, please let us know by contacting to enable us to offer your place to another person.
