Effective Observation, Assessment and Planning for Early Years

For: Universal EYFS*

*Universal EYFS = All Practitioners working with EYFS children in a School, Day Nursery, Pre-School, Out of School Provision or as a Childminder

All courses are being offered at a highly subsidised rate to acknowledge and support your current potential financial issues due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Ticket prices will vary for each course/event depending on trainers cost.

Delivery Information:-

This course will take place via Zoom Video Conferencing, learners will be provided with support, instructions and a link to join the course. All learners will be expected to attend by video call as standard, with cameras on during the whole of the delivery. Courses are interactive so please expect to contribute and take part in full. Zoom is accessible on PCs, tablets and smartphones.

Course aims and objectives

• To highlight the importance of effective and robust observation and assessment.

• To share the key principles observing and assessing learning and development.

• To show how effective observation underpins planning and give methods to help this.

• To share case studies and real life examples

• To give learners the confidence to observe and assess learning and development and create opportunities within an enabling learning environment

• To familiarise learners with recent updates to Ofsted and the Statutory Framework for the EYFS and how to ground these in effective practice and provision

Learning outcomes –

To understand effective observation and assessment

• To develop the skills of accurately observing children and making informed and accurate assessments.

• To strike the appropriate balance between child initiated and adult led activities.

• To use assessment to inform teaching and the environment to plan for and provide opportunities for challenge and progress

• To be able to plan teaching in an environment that meets the interests and needs of individual children

• To have effective systems for observation, assessment and planning to enable positive, useful impact on a child’s future progress

• To enable delegates to more confident in their roles
