Effective Teaching of Primary Languages

Languages are now a statutory part of the Key Stage 2 curriculum. This practical and informative course will provide a thorough understanding of the national requirements to head teachers, class teachers, teaching assistants and visiting specialist teachers – in short, to anyone involved in the teaching and coordinating/leading of a foreign language in Key Stage 2.

Aims and Content

· Understand national requirements relating to Key Stage 2 Languages;

· Gain a thorough understanding of the DfE Key Stage 2 MFL Programme of Study;

· Reflect on the level and scope of language required for successful delivery across Key Stage

2, including phonics and strategies for improving your own level of language;

· Learn ways to use rhymes, songs and stories in the languages classroom;

· Take away a range of effective, engaging and interactive activities to develop listening, speaking, reading and writing skills (examples will be given in both French and Spanish);

· Develop an understanding of available schemes of work and resources available to help

and strategies to effectively quality assure new resources.

Suitable for Head teachers, senior leaders, subject leaders, class teachers and teaching assistants
