Deepen knowledge of how CPA approaches can be used to develop conceptual understanding of Multiplication and Division, supporting improved engagement and progress for learners.
This will involve a blend of:
- Introduction to key ideas from theory, research and policy
- Practical activities that will help embed these principles in classroom practice
This session is intended for any primary and secondary practitioners who work within the BGE (including teachers, support staff, SfL and SLT) who would like to deepen their knowledge and skills in the use of CPA approaches to support engagement and progress in Multiplication and Division at Early - Second Level.
This session will focus on key concrete and pictorial representations that can be used be in Multiplication and Division and explore:
- The role of these representations in developing conceptual understanding
- How these representations can be progressively developed from Early-Second level, and when and how to link these to abstract ways of working
- Practical activities that can support the use of these representations in the classroom.
