Description

Effra - Album Launch

Effra are an instrumental trio consisting of fiddle & mandolin, accordion and guitar. Their music is rooted in the traditions of the British Isles yet draws on influences from Appalachia to the Balkans. With strong backgrounds in folk, jazz, rock, gypsy jazz and classical music, each member of Effra brings his own unique ingredients to the collaborative pot.

Since their debut performances in 2011, Effra have been praised for their high energy style, captivating compositions and an intense musicianship which gives their live shows a febrile shimmer. Whether taking you on a traditional romp through dancier numbers or enchanting you with delicately interwoven melodies, they will entertain everyone, from the tone-deaf to those with the most discerning ears.

After a long break, and plenty of time in the studio, the trio are ready to release their second album. Explorations of abandoned mines, quests for lost rivers and other subterranean experiences bubble up to the surface and are made musically manifest in Effra’s ‘Below Ground’.

Venue: Newington Green Chapel Venue

A beautiful and historic Grade-II listed church built in 1708. Known as 'the birthplace of feminism' due to its connections to activist and author Mary Wollstonecraft (mother of Mary Shelley). The church is one of England's oldest Unitarian churches and London's oldest non-conformist place of worship still in use.
