About this event
Join us for this online demonstration Small Steps in Swedish Weaving with Sarah Boardman.
You’ve heard, "the back should be as neat as the front"?
What if you didn't need to worry about that?
Swedish Weaving embroidery has no threads on the reverse side of the fabric!
Also known as Huck embroidery, it is worked entirely on the surface of the fabric. Intrigued? Allow Sarah to demonstrate. Join as she introduces you to this wonderful hand embroidery technique.
She will demonstrate some of the basic stitches along with giving a brief history, showing some historic examples as well as some of her work.
If you want to stitch along, you will need:
- Machine thread in a colour that shows up well on white
- Size 22 cross stitch/round ended/blunt needle
- 2 skeins of Perle No.5 thread - 2 shades of same colour or 2 colours of your choice
- Embroidery scissors
- Hands free magnifier (optional)
This event will be recorded. This ticket is for the live event on 25 October. You will also be given access to the recording once it is available, and attendees will have access to the recording until at least 8 November. If you are unable to attend the live event, then register to see the On Demand version.
We are running a number of short workshops and demonstrations which are £2.99 for members and between £10 and £15 for non-members. As well as upcoming events, members can also access recordings of past workshops at a reduced price, to watch at their leisure.
Why not join us to access this discount and other membership discounts too?
You can find details on Guild Membership at https://embroiderersguild.com/membership/
The demonstration will be in webinar format (i.e. attendee video and microphones will be turned off). You will be free to ask questions in the chat and will also have an opportunity to share images inspired by the demonstration on Instagram and Facebook.
Your Demonstrator
After completing courses in Machine Embroidery and Advanced Stitched Textiles, Sarah discovered Swedish Weaving/Huck embroidery during lockdown. It has since become something of a passion!
She finds the rhythm of the hand stitching allows her to take time out, connect with herself and reflect. Sarah now enjoys teaching, sharing her passion for it and selling kits of her own designs. She is also part of ‘Out of the Fold’ textile group and exhibits her embroidery and other textile work with them.
