About this event

Ephemeral in nature, Cas Holmes uses worn paper, cloth, paint and stitch to explore the passage of time and the liminal spaces connecting land, people, and place. Our connection to landscape and nature is embedded in the narratives to be found in cloth; our social and cultural histories are found in the weave, pattern and colour of textiles created by generations of skilled makers. Current works resonate with the ephemeral things she experiences daily, or on everyday objects and items she uses or has collated from her walks.

These textile hangings, objects and book forms include a body of work ‘Making Connections’ which are centred around the ideas of how our minds connect to 'matter' and how the brain interprets and makes a creative response to the physical reality of the world around us. These pieces celebrate the importance of connecting to the landscape locally, and the garden in a changed life.

Cas is generously donating her fees and commission for this talk to the Embroiderers' Guild and We Care. We Care is an organisation dedicated to supporting vulnerable families, the elderly and disabled against poverty and social isolation.

This ticket is for the live event on 11 November. You will also be given access to the recording once it is available and will be able to view it for at least 6 weeks after the event. If you cannot attend live, register for the On Demand version here where the recording will be available from 25 November.
