Workshop Overview:

During the workshop participants will learn about the different aspects of the Enterprise Investment Scheme (EIS) and Seed Enterprise Investment Scheme (SEIS) both from the investors' and company's point of view, including advantages and potential pitfalls.

  • SEIS company criteria - an overview of the main criteria that need to be met by the company in order for it to qualify as an SEIS investment.
  • EIS company criteria - an overview of the main criteria that need to be met by the company in order for it to qualify as an EIS investment.
  • Investor tax relief - how the investments are treated from the investors' point of view. Overview of main tax reliefs available under both schemes.
  • Potential pitfalls - overview of how things can go wrong and how tax relief can be lost.
  • HMRC advance assurance - summary of what advance assurance is and in what circumstances it can be applied for. Overview of what information needs to be provided as part of an application. What to expect from HMRC.
  • Post investment compliance - overview of procedure to register SEIS/EIS investment with HMRC.

Pete Edwards Bio:

Pete is a tax specialist and leads a team with his in-depth knowledge of all areas of corporate tax including corporate reconstructions, succession and sales planning, employee share schemes and general tax planning including capital allowance gains. He advises our innovative and technology businesses on key areas such as R&D tax credits and patent box claims as well as advising companies in respect of EIS/SEIS criteria and advance assurance applications.

He has also worked extensively in personal tax and has advised a broad range of clients on various aspects of their tax affairs including self-assessment, tax planning and international tax aspects.
