Event description

Description

EIT Health is a network of best-in-class innovators backed by the EU. By collaborating across borders, they deliver solutions to enable European citizens to live longer, healthier lives. Their role is to support the development and commercialisation of healthcare solutions that make a difference both in people’s lives and in health systems across Europe. They believe, as do we, that innovation is the key to this goal.

An Innovation Day, or i-Day for short, is a 1 day training event focusing on healthcare innovation, design thinking and pitching with a strong emphasis on citizen and start up engagement. i-Days offer inspirational speakers, expert coaching networking/recruitment opportunities and future EIT Health opportunities.

This is an annual intensive and competitive event open to all students in the North East, focused around developing an innovative solution to a health based problem. Now in its 4th year, Health Innovation Day has grown from just 6 institutions to over 30 and this year there will be 32 Innovation Days hosted across Europe during the same 2 week period.

This year the theme is ‘Bringing Care Home’ and we are focusing on the process of ideation. We will use the design thinking framework to explore how we can generate innovative products and services to address the problems associated with ‘Bringing Care Home’.

The focus this year is on developing a co-creation and co-design space and we will have a wide range of external stakeholders involved who will work with the students in their teams to develop products and services together. We want to leverage their expertise to help generate feasible, viable and desirable solutions.

What’s in it for students?

  • Opportunity to work in a multidisciplinary team and network
  • Chance to meet and pitch your ideas/yourself to impressive members of the healthcare community
  • Access to patients/users to better understand health challenges
  • Training in practical tools in innovation methodology, design thinking and pitching
  • Opportunity to tackle real-life health challenges
  • The chance to win prizes, awards, recognition & future opportunities
  • Improve your soft skills and employability (great CV addition!)
  • Opportunity to attend Europe wide Winners Event in December

This year the Winners Event will be hosted in Paris on 1st December 2019. The winning team from Newcastle’s i-Day will be transported to Paris (travel and accommodation provided) to develop their health care innovation with a team of expert facilitators from within the EIT Health network. The winning student team will then compete with the 30+ other winning teams from across Europe to showcase their developed healthcare innovation.

Open to ALL students, from ANY discipline at ANY University - what are you waiting for?!
