Event description
A unique and historic part of London, The Royal Docks is being transformed into a vibrant new destination to live, work and play

About this event

With over £8bn being invested in the area over the next 20 years, 25,000 new homes and 60,000 jobs will be created.

Covering 1,200 acres and 12 miles of waterfront, The Royal Docks is one of the UK’s most significant regeneration projects. Once London’s gateway to global trade, the area is re-emerging as a commercial and cultural hub. The Royal Docks is also the meeting point of two growth corridors: an Opportunity Area, and London’s only Enterprise Zone, making it poised for rapid growth.

The East London Architects’ group will chair this event exploring the architecture, placemaking and new cultural assets of The Royal Docks. Speakers from these fields will be confirmed shortly and we look forward to hearing their experiences of revitalising this part of London.

Speakers:

  • Rokhsana Fiaz, Mayor of Newham
  • Sébastien Ricard, Director at Wilkinson Eyre Architects, who will be discussing their design of The Crystal
  • Fabienne Nicholas of the Contemporary Art Society (and Mayoral Design Advocate for the GLA), who will be discussing the CAS’s work developing a placemaking strategy for the area
  • Marcel Baettig, founder of arts and education charity Bow Arts
  • Student representatives from the University of East London talking about their project work in the area
