National & EU Elections in Austria 2024: A guide

New citizens of Austria who obtained citizenship through a parent or other ancestor persecuted under National Socialism (‘Wiederöesterreicher’) are cordially invited to this webinar, which sets out to help you exercise your right to vote in Austrian parliamentary and EU elections in 2024.

Hosted by one of the 28,000 new Austrians, UK-based journalist Nik Pollinger and introduced by Austria's ambassador to the UK, the 1hr 15 minute webinar features an Austrian expert on the political system and a leading Austrian journalist, who is also a prominent member of the Jewish community.

It will cover:

· The Austrian Parliamentary system

· The current Government and its record

· Hot topics for the 2024 Austrian national and EU elections

· Which election issues are particularly salient for the Jewish community in Austria

· The main parties’ policies, hearing from parties themselves

· The election dates and information on registering to vote

There will be c. 10 minutes for the audience to question the panellists within the webinar timeframe and a request will also go out to attendees for questions in advance.

About the webinar

The objective of this webinar is to help reinstate the voices of families who were forced to leave Austria, through the democratic process. The opportunity for influence is demonstrated by the mere 31,000 votes deciding the presidential election in May 2016, after postal votes were counted. Participation in EU elections will also be possible, which is particularly significant for British voters who lost the franchise post 'Brexit'.

Please note that if they have not already done so, citizens have to register to vote by April 25th 2024, to make the deadline for the EU elections. If you have registered in the past and have received confirmation, you do not have to re-register for these elections. The date for the Austrian parliamentary elections is TBC, but registration covers participation at both polls.
