Electric Harmony Presents: Rebeka + A Ninja Slob Drew Me \ Gigs in the Gall...
Event Information
Description
Rebeka is an unusual duo - a crazy and unpredictable warrior, whose strong energy reaches a climax at concerts.
Their debut album, Hellada, is as complete and elaborate as it is full of beauty, dirt and emotions.
The cold synths and pulsing bass transform the listener as they are sucked into emotional, engaging stories. Hellada a was named Polish Album of the Year in 2013 by Gazeta Wyborcza.
Rebeka treats its live performances very seriously. Both of the musicians are perfectionists - they keep repeating that work on the band’s concert sound never ends, they devise new variants of particular compositions and of arrangements of entire performances. The objective is to control what happens on stage – this isn’t about recreating the material that was recorded in the studio but about playing as much live as possible, which isn’t all that easy for a duo. That is why in concert one hears something else than in the recordings.
Watch:
Rebeka are supported this evening by local solo extended rage bass player A Ninja Slob Drew Me, with ambient instrumentals, experimental flavours and a sound you haven't heard before.
He creates atmospheric instrumental music that combines intricate, moody eight string bass compositions with programmed elements to create a unique blend of ambient, experimental sounds and textures. He aims to make bass guitar music that isn’t just for other musicians, but which appeals to a larger audience and speaks to people.
“Finger-tapping beautiful, ambient textures from an 8-string bass over trip-hop sound textures and occasionally delving into moments of distroted chaos, albiet still within the realms of carefully crafted beauty. A Ninja Slob Drew Me produce chill-out music that is both awe inspiring for the musicians in the crowd and tastefully exquisite listening for the casual music fan in need of something with a little bit more thought than the average Top 40 record.” – Mike Spall, Mintsouth
We will also be joined by Keepers Brew who will be joining us tonight to DJ before, during and after, the gig, creating sounds that evoke sonic landscapes, both earthly and intergalactic. His debut album ‘Astrolabe’ has been described as an electronic, dark jazz, introspective journey.. a space rock lobotomy!
Keepers Brew is the brain child of musican/producer Greyum May. Greyum is a previous Ozric Tentacles bass player, although he is keen to point out, there are many people who can claim the same in the Ozric’s long history. However the experience of playing with them is quite obvious at points in his music. Other influences we find in the recipe of Keepers Brew’s own unique musical cocktail are as wide and varied as Gong, Brian Eno, Miles Davis and Les Claypool!
About Gigs in the Gallery
Our Director Paul Bickmore (better known as Bik) spends a lot of his time tracking down a varied, interesting range of performances for us to host here at The Art House.
A seasoned musician himself (as well as being the man who does the sound engineering on the night - something he does extremely well), Bik hand selects the very best acts to showcase in our gallery space - his criteria?
They have to make him feel like this!

Young children are also welcome to come along but be aware some poems and songs may contain adult content (although we try to keep these until after children have left!)
Most events are held on our first floor, accessible by a wide staircase with a sturdy banner. Comformatable seating is provided.
