Guérassim Dichliev’s ‘Out of Place’

Talk and performance with Paris’s Guérassim Dichliev

Tuesday 22nd May 2018, 6.30 -8.30 pm

Guerassim is an artist working with the art of mime, the body on the stage and physical theater. During this evening Guerassim will give a brief talk about his art, sharing some of the key principles of mime, and its value for outdoor arts. He will then perform his latest one man show ‘Out of Place’: a comedy without words that speaks volumes.

He worked with the famous French Mime Marceau and he has been in this microcosm for nearly 30 years. Invited by The Master to become his pedagogical assistant and teacher in The International School of Mimodrame of Paris "Marcel Marceau". In parallel he joined the Company of Mime Marceau and so he toured with him in France and internationally.

In his career, he has played alongside: Mime Marceau, Sonya Yoncheva, Magali Noël, Emmanuel Vacca, Gérard Depardieu, Monica Bellucci, Laetitia Casta, Madonna Bouglione, Thierry Lhermite and Olivier Gourmet. And has coached artists like: Michaël Youn, Raphaël, Marie Trintignant and Jacques Higelin.

He has worked under the direction of Marcel Marceau, Claus Guth, Costantino Raimondi, Edouard Dedessus Le Moutier, Jean Paul Scarpita, Mireille Laroche, Madonna Bouglione, Bertrand Tavernier, Pierre Jolivet and Costa Gavras.

He works mainly in France, but has performed all over the world: South America, the United States and Central America , Asia, Africa and the Middle East. Especially with his show “Monologue with Suitcase”, which he has played in more than 30th Alliances Françaises all over the world.

In November 2017 he was awarded on the United Solo Festival of New York for Best Comedian.

Out of Place (performance)

‘Out of Place’ is written and performed by Guérassim Dichliev, and directed by Eddy Castors. Its a show that came to life during the worst year of Guerassim’s life, giving rise to a simple, personal desire; “to create a show that can make anybody and everybody laugh”. Nothing more. No complicated philosophy, no existential questions, just laughing. Do we laugh about the same things? Guérassim’s answer is yes, “so long as we don’t take ourselves too seriously, so long as we manage to keep a child’s outlook on life. A child who, in all seriousness, takes on a task that is, in appearance, too complicated for him, a child who tries to be a ‘grown-up’”. By means of a very physical approach, ‘Out of Place’ highlights the adventures of this ordinary man, thrown into the ‘extraordinary’ of the theatre. It takes a man out of his daily routine, adds a variety of incidents, all beyond his power of course, and shows he’ll always end up out of place, despite himself.
