Event description

Description

Instruments of Joy - creating a contemporary street band with Tim Hill

Half day practical workshop with Tim Hill
Thursday 10th May 2018, 1-4pm at Cobden Works, Salford

Get inspired by Tim Hill’s practical music making afternoon of exploration, as he takes you on a musical odyssey to tease out the sounds from the past that can help build the next generation of street band music. Tim will begin your journey by examining an eclectic range of traditional English outdoor celebration and ritual music from Medieval folk to the funeral march. Exploring what happens when you bring in internal flavours such as jazz, the New Orleans sound and folk. Helping you discover a rich new pallet of noise for your own creative practice.

Musician’s will benefit from this workshop, but non-musicians are welcome to listen. This practical session is especially valuable for creatives looking for new influences and inspiration.

Tim Hill is a musician and artist specialising in outdoor music, celebrations and shows. Tim’s band street band Tongues of Fire make a joyful noise at festivals and events all over the country. With the Mellstock Band he recreates the English rural music of the 18th and 19th centuries, appearing in many TV and film productions including the classic BBC Pride and Prejudice. Tim also plays a wide variety of music from folk to improvised noise and has lectured and talked at several Universities, colleges and conferences.
