Description

ELEVATE 2019 Practical Workshop: Creating Carnival without costing the Earth

Thursday 16 May, 10am-5pm at Mayfield Depot, Manchester City Centre, M1 2QF

In this new practical workshop, Alison will be sharing advice and ideas on how to make your art more sustainable with an emphasis on choice of materials and experimenting with the process of deconstructing and recycling. These ideas will be explored through key techniques she uses in puppet and mask making, including creating clay sculpting for papier mache, and basic wood carving. She will bring many examples of puppets from different productions so participants can explore construction methods, jointing and controls.

More about Alison:

Alison is a puppet and mask maker based in West Yorkshire. Her company, A Bird in the Hand Theatre, creates puppet and mask theatre and outdoor installations which celebrate the wonder of the natural world and our place within it. She worked for many years as Joint Artistic Director of Horse + Bamboo, and now makes puppets for parades and theatre shows around the world including for Manchester Day Parade.
