Description

Elevenses - join us for tea, biscuits and a STROLL on a WALKSHOP of discovery

Co-curated by the Museum of Walking and PLAYLINK Expanding London - Kidbrooke Village and Lewisham Centre Tuesday 5 December 2017 11.00am Start: Kidbrooke Rail Station (1st Coffee, 4 Elford Cl, London SE3 9FA). We will travel on the train between these two sites - travel cost is not included in the ticket price.

Continuing our series of knowledge sharing walkshops into areas and neighbourhoods of Expanding London Led by Phil Doyle - Place designer and Bernard Speigal, thought-leader and Managing Director of PLAYLINK.

The 'Housing crisis' where have we heard that before? As London expands with a growing population, with increasing numbers of younger people, and a bulging number of seniors, are we building housing and neighbourhoods fit for purpose over the longer term? Expanding London isn't just on the periphery, there's increasing density of housing being built in amongst existing sites, in boroughs closer to the centre.

On this excursion we visit Kidbrooke Village where once stood the Ferrier Estate, and after a short train journey, walk through the new Lewisham centre gateway project.

People who come on an Elevenses tend to be a curious lot. They don't come to judge or boast that they may have done things better, but to ask the questions why and how? We are inviting people with an interest in an area - geographical or thematic - to join a group stroll around the thoroughfares and sites that interest them - that say something significant when viewed through their eyes.

In a series of Elevenses walkshops - approximate duration 1.5/2 hours - artists, designers, the streetwise with local knowledge, professionals, researchers and writers will share their personal responses to the neighbourhoods in which current and future generations will live, work or ‘practice’.

We meet and greet at a local cafe and carry away coffee or tea. Thus warmed and braced for any weather, we begin our wandering, conversational stroll, usually ending up close to public transport or somewhere to sit and have lunch.

Cost to participants: In advance on-line: £20, On the day: £25 : Introduce a friend and get £2 discount (for you and your friend) distributed at the start of the walkshop.

Concessions: (NUS card / Freedom Pass) £10 (on the day - proof required): . Group discounts available - just use our Get in Touch form. Receipts available on request. Do contact us if you would like to lead a stroll or explore another part of Expanding London - just Get in Touch with us here.
