Event description
The Henry Jackson Society is delighted to invite you to a discussion with Elif Shafak

About this Event

According to Elif Shafak, culture and literature matters. It becomes especially relevant in the age of populism, pessimism and political uncertainty. In fact, most of the conflicts which we are experiencing today within our societies are related to culture. And yet the culture and literature are often ignored in political analyses. Elif Shafak thinks that no country, even  most mature democracy, is immune to the rise of extremism and toxic populism. At this event, the most widely read female author in Turkey will explain what role culture and literature plays in the formation of extremist and populist movements and how culture and literature can help to stop the spread of it.
