Description

ELIZA CARTHY & THE WAYWARD BAND

The Wayward band is bursting with some of the finest players in recent times,
including members of Bellowhead, Mawkin, Blowzabella, Edward II, Emily Port
man Trio, Peatbog Fairies, Dreams of Tall Buildings & Tyde..
Eliza Carthy & The Wayward Band are recording a brand new album, due for release
in October 2016. The record will feature traditional material, as well as classics
from Eliza's back catalogue and new tunes. A beacon of hope in these uncertain times.

I care about holding my arms open to those that have nothing; I care about the great
tradition of hospitality, freedom of thought and speech. I have never turned anyone from my
door and would never turn anyone away from my shore. Not in my name. There is plenty for everyone; the fruit in our garden is good  "Eliza Carthy

“And, of course, we already know the band is great. So what follows may not be a surprise – but it is completely thrilling… with Carthy dancing about at the centre of a joyful musical whirlwind, thrilling in the moment. Everyone – whether in the crowd or on the stage – is left with a huge, silly smile.”
folkwitness.co.uk, Live Review

“In fact, while the recently released compilation Wayward Daughter highlights her outstanding vocal talents across a diversity of material, the tour has given her the chance to let her fiddling skills come to the fore. She really let rip and blew up a storm with fellow fiddler Sam Sweeney taking his usual stance almost side stage.”
louderthanwar.com, Live Review

“Yorkshire’s finest, the rich-voiced Eliza Carthy was in full, ebullient flight as she opened in plaintive form with a lullaby, accompanied only by fiddle and melodeon, and went on to deliver old favourites such as Worcester City and Cold Blow, as well as a calypso learned from her mother, delivered with a wit and rumbustious panache which suited the full-blown band.”
The Scotsman, Live Review

‘It’s a proud career CV but more importantly it stands powerfully alone on its own considerable merits – vibrant, modern and relevant’
FRoots Magazine

‘Her vision remains absolutely faithful to the story and expresses the song’s essential emotions. She accomplishes this with wit and exuberance – And this is her genius.. Every home should have a wayward daughter’
***** Songlines Magazine

‘A more fearsome performer than mum or dad, or indeed anyone else on the folk scene she’s helped to galvanise...a rich primer of a singular career’
Uncut

‘Headstrong, determined, incorrigible and irreverent, Eliza Carthy did more than anyone to revoluntionise and rid English folk music of staid cliche ridden images’
Mojo

‘Whatever she addresses she does so with warmth, intelligence and crate loads of personality’
