A contemplative Waiting: The Art of Faith
A residential retreat following a visit to the National Gallery
For centuries, art was one of the principal ways people learnt about Christianity, Bible stories, doctrine, and the practice of prayer. Most of us now experience it in a very different setting of public museums and art galleries. Can it once again form a part of our spiritual learning and life?
This retreat will include a visit to the National Gallery to take a contemplative look at some masterpieces of Christian art and consider how looking at particular artists' visions might challenge or refresh our sense of the familiar. We'll also consider how looking at paintings might play a part in our devotional and prayer life.
Elizabeth is Head of Adult Leaning at St Paul's Cathedral, running the Cathedral's theology and spiritual formation programme. An art historian by training, she worked for many years in museums and galleries in London before joining St Paul's Cathedral.
Stay in one of our lovely en-suite bedrooms - full board from 9am on the 28th to 4.30pm on the 29th.
