Join us in welcoming Ella Berman (Reese’s Book Club pick) and Kirsty Capes (longlisted for the Women's Prize 2022), in conversation with Beth McColl, to discuss their latest stand-out novels. Both offer unflinching explorations into the emotional depths of friendship, family and altogether present both authors at their absolute best!L.A. WomenAfter a steady descent from literary stardom, Lane Warren is back. She’s secured a new book deal based off the life of her sometime friend and, more often, rival Gala Margolis. Lane’s only problem is that notorious free spirit Gala has been missing for months.Ten years earlier, Gala was a charming socialite and Lane was a Hollywood outsider amidst the glittering 1960s L.A. party scene. Though they were never best friends, Lane found Gala sharp and compelling. Gala liked that Lane took her seriously. They were both writers. They were drawn to each other. That was until Gala’s star began to rise, and Lane grew envious. Then Lane did something that she wouldn’t ever be able to take back…changing the trajectories of both their lives.GirlsEveryone has heard of Girls. But what happened to the women they became? At the time of her death, the press wrote many things about Ingrid Olssen:She was a brilliant artist. She was a terrible mother to her girls, Mattie and Nora. And that her legacy would live on forever.Even so, it's unlikely the world will ever see another Ingrid Olssen exhibition - her last request to her daughters was to throw her ashes in the canyon and her paintings in the sea.But as Mattie and Nora reluctantly embark on an all-or-nothing trip to fulfil her wishes, they start to unpick the painful scars of their past. And soon they begin to realise that the ties that bound them, might also break them...Ella Berman grew up in both London and Los Angeles and worked at Sony Music before starting the clothing brand London Loves LA. She lives in London with her husband, James, and their dog, Rocky. Her debut novel The Comeback was a Today Show Read With Jenna Book Club pick, and her second book Before We Were Innocent was a Reese’s Book Club pick. L.A. Women is her third novel.Kirsty Capes works in marketing and lives in Slough with her golden retriever, Doug. She holds a PhD from Brunel University London; her thesis investigates representations of the care experience in contemporary British fiction. Her first novel, Careless, was longlisted for the Women's Prize 2022. Girls is her third novel.Beth McColl is a writer, author and podcaster covering mental health, sex, dating, travel and popular culture.
