The ELSA initiative was set up with recognition from the outset that ELSAs must receive regular* professional supervision from a fully qualified educational psychologist:

· In the caring professions it is common practice to receive supervision from other qualified and experienced practitioners. It provides opportunity for reflective practice, supportive challenge, and personal support

· Reflective practice implies shared consideration of a client’s needs and ways in which those needs have been or may be addressed

· Supportive challenge implies a process whereby a practitioner is enabled to think about issues from another perspective and consider alternative ways of assisting clients

· Personal support implies the supervisor being interested in the personal and contextual factors that influence the practitioner, including their own wellbeing

In the ELSA context supervision involves understanding the psychological development of children and young people, considering the meaning behind children’s behaviours, and applying psychological principles to the process of supporting change.

Since most ELSAs are likely to have had no specific psychological training beyond those insights provided through initial ELSA training, it is essential for them to receive regular* ongoing support that develops their knowledge and understanding in these areas. Without this they may be left unsure as they seek to support children with a complex range of needs. There is also a risk of them being asked to deal with issues beyond their level of competence which require much more specialist professional input.

Whilst we understand the pressures in schools, the ELSA Quality Mark standards inform that any ELSA who is running ELSA sessions in school, or using the ELSA title, must attend supervision regularly* throughout the year. As part of the ELSA Quality Standards we are duty bound to remove any ELSA’s who do not attend supervision regularly* from our ELSA register (unless we are informed of extenuating circumstances.).

Microsoft Teams Invitations will be emailed to all ELSAs who have booked into a session via Eventbrite – it is therefore essential that ELSAs register on Eventbrite with their e-mail address, and have a suitable, confidential place in school to meet. We ask that where possible attendees turn on video so that all those in attendance can be seen on screen.

* We would expect attendance at an absolute minimum of 3 per year, but strongly recommend for ELSAs to attend as close to 6 as possible.

ELSAs can sign up to supervision sessions via Eventbrite Please only book your place when you know you can attend supervision (one per half term only). We are not running separate sessions for Complex Needs ELSAs this year, so please Complex Needs ELSAs please book onto any of the ELSA sessions. After some requests we have made a few of the sessions just for High School ELSAs, please only book onto these if you are an ELSA working in a High School.

Sefydlwyd y fenter ELSA gyda chydnabyddiaeth o'r cychwyn cyntaf bod yn rhaid i ELSAs gael goruchwyliaeth broffesiynol rheolaidd* gan seicolegydd addysgol cwbl gymwysedig:

1. Yn y proffesiynau gofalu mae'n arfer cyffredin derbyn goruchwyliaeth gan ymarferwyr cymwys a phrofiadol eraill. Mae'n darparu cyfle i ymarfer myfyriol, her gefnogol, a chefnogaeth bersonol

2. Mae ymarfer myfyriol yn golygu ystyriaeth ar y cyd o anghenion cleient a ffyrdd y mae'r anghenion hynny wedi'u mynd i'r afael â nhw neu y gellir mynd i'r afael â'r anghenion hynny

3. Mae her gefnogol yn awgrymu proses lle mae ymarferydd yn cael ei alluogi i feddwl am faterion o safbwynt arall ac ystyried ffyrdd amgen o gynorthwyo cleientiaid

4. Mae cymorth personol yn golygu bod gan y goruchwyliwr ddiddordeb yn y ffactorau personol a chyd-destunol sy'n dylanwadu ar yr ymarferydd, gan gynnwys eu lles eu hunain

Yng nghyd-destun ELSA, mae goruchwyliaeth yn cynnwys deall datblygiad seicolegol plant a phobl ifanc, ystyried yr ystyr y tu ôl i ymddygiadau plant, a chymhwyso egwyddorion seicolegol i'r broses o gefnogi newid.

Gan fod y rhan fwyaf o ELSAs yn debygol o fod wedi cael unrhyw hyfforddiant seicolegol penodol y tu hwnt i'r mewnwelediadau hynny a ddarperir trwy hyfforddiant ELSA cychwynnol, mae'n hanfodol iddynt dderbyn cefnogaeth barhaus rheolaidd* sy'n datblygu eu gwybodaeth a'u dealltwriaeth yn y meysydd hyn. Heb hyn efallai y byddant yn cael eu gadael yn ansicr wrth iddynt geisio cefnogi plant ag ystod gymhleth o anghenion. Mae perygl hefyd y gofynnir iddynt ddelio â materion y tu hwnt i'w lefel o gymhwysedd sy'n gofyn am fewnbwn proffesiynol llawer mwy arbenigol.

Er ein bod yn deall y pwysau mewn ysgolion, mae safonau Marc Ansawdd ELSA yn hysbysu bod yn rhaid i unrhyw ELSA sy'n cynnal sesiynau ELSA yn yr ysgol, neu'n defnyddio teitl ELSA, fynychu goruchwyliaeth yn rheolaidd* trwy gydol y flwyddyn. Fel rhan o Safonau Ansawdd ELSA, mae dyletswydd arnom gael gwared ar unrhyw ELSA's nad ydynt yn mynychu goruchwyliaeth yn rheolaidd* o'n cofrestr ELSA (oni bai ein bod yn cael gwybod am amgylchiadau lliniarol).

Bydd Gwahoddiadau Microsoft Teams yn cael eu hanfon drwy e-bost at bob ELSA sydd wedi archebu sesiwn drwy Eventbrite – felly mae'n hanfodol bod ELSAs yn cofrestru ar Eventbrite gyda'u cyfeiriad e-bost, a bod ganddynt le addas, cyfrinachol yn yr ysgol i gyfarfod. Gofynnwn i fynychwyr troi fideo ymlaen fel bod yr holl bobl sy'n bresennol yn cael eu gweld ar y sgrin.

* Byddwn yn disgwyl presenoldeb o leiaf absoliwt o 3 y flwyddyn, ond argymhellwn yn gryf i ELSAs fynychu mor agos at 6 â phosibl.

Nid ydym yn cynnal sesiynau ar wahân ar gyfer ELSAs Anghenion Cymhleth eleni, felly os gwelwch yn dda ELSAs Anghenion Cymhleth archebwch ar unrhyw un o'r sesiynau ELSA. Ar ôl rhai ceisiadau rydym wedi gwneud ychydig o'r sesiynau ar gyfer ELSAs Ysgol Uwchradd yn unig, archebwch ar y rhain dim ond os ydych chi'n ELSA sy'n gweithio mewn Ysgol Uwchradd.
