This enhanced training programme will be delivered by the City of York Educational Psychology Service, with support from the Specialist Teaching Team.
The primary aim of the training course is to develop the skills and knowledge of Teaching Assistants or Pastoral staff in order to enhance the range of interventions provided in schools for children and young people presenting with social and emotional needs at Band 1 of the CYC SEN Banding Thresholds and beyond. The training sessions include a range of evidence-based early intervention strategies, e.g. Circle of Friends, Therapeutic Stories, Understanding and Managing Anger, Social Stories and Solution-focused approaches, as well as covering more psychological material around Self-esteem, Autism, Bereavement and Attachment and Trauma. The course content has been revised and extended to include new sessions on Anxiety and Nurturing Classrooms. In addition, there will be input on the final day around programme planning, to which Line Managers are warmly welcomed. The intervention programme is strongly based on ‘what works’ and has been evaluated very positively by schools who have already undertaken the programme.
Please note there will be a cost associated with this programme. Please see the North Star website for more information: www.northstaralliance.org.uk
