About this event

Travel & Outdoor • Hiking

Start point: Britannia Inn, Elterwater

Length: 3.8km (2.3miles) with 183m (600ft) of ascent

Time: 2 hours (approx.)

Grade: 3 (see grade description below)

A walk which caters for visitors who perhaps would not normally consider a guided walk. The route begins with an ascent from the village to a viewpoint giving an excellent view into the valley (weather permitting). It then descends towards Chapel Stile before crossing Great Langdale Beck and ascending to a viewing platform overlooking a working slate quarry. The walk ends following the river back to Elterwater.

The route is along small roads, paths and tracks. Paths are generally good but there are some sections that are uneven and others and which may be muddy and slippery in poor weather.

Grade 3 walks may include some moderate ascents and descents. The path surface might be earth, grass or stone and – while generally firm – it will have some loose or uneven sections, or be soft underfoot after rain. You will also encounter steps, gates or stiles and narrow sections. Most of our grade 3 walks are suitable for families.

Participants will need to dress appropriately for the terrain and weather. Weather permitting, we will be stopping for a short break on route so please bring refreshments if you wish.

Your confirmation email will include full details - please read it carefully.
