About this event
Elvis is back! Stand-up poet, comedian, broadcaster and armchair revolutionary, Elvis McGonagall returns to Purbeck for Sandy Hill Arts' first big evening event for 2022. A regular of BBC Radio 4, Elvis is well known for his energetic performances full of wit, intelligence and imagination. People have said of him “bitingly satirical, irreverent, intelligent and laugh-out-loud funny, Elvis has deservedly earned a reputation as one of UK performance poetry's most cherished stars” - and who are we to argue? Performance starts at 7pm
Following on from Elvis is Bowie. Or rather Pop-up Bowie, aka Paul Antony - he wowed us at our Planet Purbeck Festival in 2021 and we are delighted to welcome him back. Paul performs the greatest hits of David Bowie, from every era of the iconic artist's career from the 70s through to the nineties and beyond. Moreover he's great fun - come and sing and dance!
‘For anyone who enjoys a great David Bowie tribute, Paul Antony presents the clinching argument as to exactly why he won the Bowie tribute award, as soon as he walks out onstage and begins to sing!’- 'The Stage'.
New local food pop-up The Sprout & Bean will be serving from 6 pm alongside the bar, and we have a DJ lined up too....
Please note - there will be no car parking on site that evening, but National Trust have kindly offered their car park for free for the performance - it's a five minute walk to Sandy Hill Arts. Please get in touch if you have mobility issues and feel this would be a problem.
We have limited seating: a mix of hay bales and folding chairs on a first come first served basis, that will be cleared to the sides when Pop-up Bowie comes on stage. Like the many other local outdoor performances, it would be best to bring your own camping chair or similar if you want to be sure to sit down, and dress for an English summer evening... for the weather anyway.
Food and bar from 6, Elvis goes on stage at 7, Bowie probably around 8.30. Last orders 10.30 :-)
Do let us know if you need seating because of a health issue - we will reserve something for you.
Sandy Hill Arts is the new Arts charity for Purbeck, offering performance, exhibitions and education alongside our 18 studio spaces, and of course the Boilerhouse Gallery. Great things to come !
