We Want To Hear Your Voice On “Violence Against Women!”

CEMVO Scotland has organised a series of events to develop an Ethnic Minority Women’s Network.

• • Provide a safe space for women to discuss issues that affect them
• • Develop a Network where women can share ideas and access support
• • Develop peer and mentoring support for women that needed it
• • Establish a mechanism where a wide network of women can feed into the Scottish Government and other key decision makers around policy and issues affecting EM Women.

Violence Against Women

One area of concern also highlighted by many EM women at previous events has been safety for women. Thus, we are now working in partnership with the Scottish Government Violence Against Women Unit to organise our next event, with focus on the delivery plan for the “Equally Safe” strategy which is currently being redrafted following a public consultation, with a view to publish a final delivery plan at the endo of the year. “Equally Safe” is Scotland’s strategy for preventing and eradicating violence against women and girls.

Although the consultation has closed, the Scottish Government want the voice of EM women to be heard, and to feed into the delivery plan, leading us to organise this event. Therefore, not only is this event is open to all women that have attended previous EM Women’s Network events, but also, other relevant stakeholders who have an interest in EM Women’s issues, particularly around violence and safety.

This is an opportunity to identify the issues, concerns and needs of EM women around violence against women and girls and to develop a collective voice in influencing national policy. Through a series of workshops focussing on topics such as gender based violence and honour based violence, we hope to identify actions to tackle specific barriers faced by minority ethnic women and girls.
