Philomena Azu - DAHA Champion and Domestic Abuse Housing Specialist, Islington Council


From frontline refuge work to housing leadership, Philomena Azu has dedicated her career to transforming domestic abuse housing responses. As Domestic Abuse Housing Specialist at Islington Council, she has played a pivotal role in achieving DAHA Platinum Accreditation, training hundreds of staff, and embedding trauma-informed, survivor-centred practice across housing services.


Her journey highlights the power of frontline experience combined with strategic leadership, showing how compassionate, intersectional housing responses can save lives and strengthen communities.


Halaleh Taheri - Founder & Executive Director, MEWSo


Halaleh Taheri is the founder and executive director of MEWSo (Middle Eastern Women and Society), she has been a relentless advocate for the rights of migrant and refugee women in the UK.


Her life journey spans revolutions, exile, and rebirth across multiple continents, each experience deepening her commitment to justice and community-led action. Drawing on her lived experience, Halaleh understands the unique challenges displaced women face and the tailored support they need to rebuild their lives.


From an early age, she dedicated her life to helping women, championing empowerment, equality, and safe spaces where survivors of displacement and domestic abuse can thrive. Halaleh’s work continues to inspire systemic change and transform lives through advocacy, leadership, and unwavering dedication.
