The Embodied Mathematics Project is a partnership between internationally renowned, Complicite Theatre Company and the Mathematics Education Research Group at Sheffield Hallam University. Through embodied activities a sense of 'togetherness' or ensemble is developed. The KS2 project draws on research on mathematics teaching to support attainment for all and so promotes social justice. The new primary mathematics curriculum challenges schools and teachers to ensure that pupils progress together; the embodied mathematics project supports this aiming to develop of a sense of group mastery. In 2016/17, two schools in Sheffield are involved in the Embodying Mathematics Project. In this workshop you will be introduced to a variety of embodied mathematics activities as well as insights from the research that underlies the project approach. This event will also be an opportunity to network with other teachers interested in all-attainment teaching and/or in creative approaches to teaching mathematics. Tea and coffee provided.
