About this event

  • Event lasts 3 hours

Join us for a unique pottery workshop in the serene Heart of England Forest, where nature meets creativity! Guided by Pottery Throw Down finalist David Short, you’ll craft your very own set of four embossed coffee cups, beautifully decorated with patterns inspired by woodland leaves.

What’s in Store?

  • Demonstration by Dave (20 minutes): Dave will kick things off with a demonstration of slab-building and embossing techniques, showing you how to imprint intricate leaf patterns into stoneware clay and assemble a beautifully decorated coffee cup.
  • Prepare Your Clay Slabs: Get hands-on with the stoneware clay, preparing the slabs that will form the base for your unique mugs.
  • Guided Woodland Walk (60 minutes): Head out on a peaceful walk through the forest, led by a member of the Heart of England Forest team. Explore the woodland, gather interesting leaves, and soak in the inspiration of nature’s summer abundance.
  • Coffee Cup Making Session (90 minutes): Using the leaves you’ve collected, emboss beautiful patterns into your clay slabs, cut and shape them using stencils, and carefully join the parts to create your set of four mugs. Dave will be on hand throughout to offer guidance and tips.

After the Session
Choose to:

  • Take your cups home: Let them dry naturally over the next week. You can add a clear coat of varnish to help preserve them, though unfired cups will become brittle and crumble over time.
  • Leave them for firing and glazing: For a strong, food-safe, long-lasting finish, leave your cups with Dave. He’ll professionally fire and glaze them, then post them to you once they’re ready. (Additional cost: £12 for the full set, including postage.

This workshop blends the calming beauty of nature with the joy of pottery, offering a unique opportunity to create something personal and meaningful. Whether you're new to pottery or an experienced maker, you’ll leave with newfound skills and a unique, handmade set of coffee cups.
