Britain and Palestine: From Balfour to Blair and Beyond
Join us this June for a challenging and thought-provoking lecture that explores Britain's historical and current relationship with Palestine.
We are privileged to welcome as our speaker Professor Avi Shlaim, Emeritus Fellow of St Antony's College and Emeritus Professor of International Relations at the University of Oxford.
2017 marks some significant and momentous anniversaries: 100 years since the Balfour Declaration, which committed Britain to support a national home for the Jewish people in Palestine; 70 years since the ill-fated UN Partition Plan for Palestine; 50 years since the Six Day War and the start of Israel’s occupation; and ten years since the start of Israel’s blockade of Gaza.
Professor Shlaim will explore this topic in his lecture titled ‘Britain and Palestine: From Balfour to Blair and Beyond’.
Tickets are FREE and must be booked in advance. Seating will be allocated on a first come, first served basis.
Please note: there will be a retiring collection for the work of Embrace the Middle East.

When & Where
Embrace the Middle East
Embrace supports transformational projects in the Middle East which help vulnerable and marginalised people to achieve their potential.
We work through the historic Christian communities of the region, who for two thousand years have been 'salt and light' to the people they serve.
Our vision: Lives and communities in the Middle East transformed by the compassion of Christ.
Our mission: To partner with Middle East Christians as they bring healing and hope to all who face poverty and injustice.
We aim to improve the lives of vulnerable and disadvantaged people in the Middle East.
We do this by partnering with local Christians who provide health, education and community development programmes to those in need regardless of their faith or nationality.
Embrace the Middle East is a non-governmental, inter-denominational charity.
