This 3 hour workshop will help to ground you in nature, connect you with the natural world which we are intrinsically a part of and teach you the very basics of foraging so that you can begin your journey into rewilding yourself just a little bit.
We will wander gently around the garden and surrounding woodlands, looking for and learning about some key plants to forage in this abundant and joyful season. You may learn new plants or realise that plants you know about are actually forage-able!
Absolutely no prior experience or plant knowledge is necessary - this event is designed to encourage complete beginners to dip a toe into the world of foraging and gain the confidence to try finding some wild foods yourself for the very first time.
You'll leave this experience with foraging inspiration which will be sure to encourage you to get outside, notice nature and add some fresh tasty wild ingredients to your food - benefitting your mental and physical health... and maybe even your wallet too (who doesn't love free food?!).
Nature Keen specialises in activities connecting people with nature, improving wellbeing as well as our relationship with the natural world.
This workshop will include:
- A guided nature walk around Treborth Botanic Garden and woodland
- An introduction to the basic principles of foraging
- Teaching you some key easy-to-identify species that are edible AND some that aren't edible and you need to be careful of!
- A seasonal foraging recipe to take home and have-a-go yourself
The event will be held outside, although we have the use of a sheltered outdoor pagoda if the forecast is wet.
Participants will need to come well-equipped for 3 hours outside in whatever the weather, with sturdy outdoor footwear and weather-appropriate clothing.
This event is part of a project that is funded by the The Woodland Investment Grant (TWIG) scheme. It is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund in partnership with the Welsh Government
