About this event

Emergency and Trauma Neuroimaging study day

This study day is designed for a range of healthcare professionals who interpret neuroimaging within their clinical role. Delivered by Reporting Radiographers and Radiologists, the day aims to equip practitioners with image interpretation skills and an understanding of the benefits of a range of imaging modalities to support patient management in accordance with NICE guidelines. Focus will be on the key imaging modalities used in the acute setting, including:

· CT Head Imaging – Review of common traumatic findings, indications for imaging, and interpretation of urgent pathologies such as traumatic brain injuries and stroke.

· X-ray Spine Radiographs – Evaluation of spinal injuries with plain radiographs, including alignment assessment, detection of fractures, and limitations of X-rays in trauma settings.

· CT Spine Imaging – High-resolution imaging of the cervical, thoracic, and lumbar spine; identification of complex fractures, dislocations, and spinal canal compromise.

· MRI Spine Imaging – Role of MRI in assessing traumatic and non-traumatic spinal cord and cauda equina emergencies.

The study day will comprise of 4 lectures in the morning which provide a systemic approach to image interpretation, terminology, relevant anatomy, pathology and imaging appearances.

In the afternoon participants will rotate through 3 image-based workshops where the theoretical knowledge taught in the morning can be applied in practice in smaller groups using a blended approach to teaching and incorporating collaborative discussion.
