Emergency Department High Impact User Workshop
Event Information
About this Event
This free workshop is aimed at staff who are involved in the care of patients who frequently attend Emergency Departments when this may not be the most appropriate place to meet their needs.
About this workshop
Patients who repeatedly attend healthcare facilities represent between 1-2% of Emergency Department attendances annually. Furthermore, frequent attendance at Emergency Departments is known to be associated with increased stress and dissatisfaction amongst patients. The mortality rates for this group of patients is double that of the “average” population with a higher burden of alcohol and substance misuse, and psychiatric illness. The Emergency Department at University Hospitals Bristol (UH Bristol) formed a multidisciplinary team to identify people in this group, evaluate their attendances and case notes to understand their individual needs and identify strategies to improve their options and care while in the ED.
The workshop will share the work of UH Bristol, provide an opportunity to review the data regarding high impact users in your Emergency Department, describe how to set up a high impact user service and explore strategies for managing these patients using a collaborative and system wide approach.
Who should attend?
We would like to invite the Emergency Department Matron, Consultant and a nominated Band 7 nurse who are interested in joining this project.
Lunch will be provided.
We look forward to meeting you.
