Emergency First Aid at Work - Forestry Specific

This is a one day course- Emergency First Aid at Work (Forestry Specific) held at Brockenhurst College.

If a First Aider is not legally required, an employer must still appoint a person to take charge of first aid provision, and this course provides that person with the necessary knowledge to do so. This course is ideal for individuals, lone workers or employees of smaller low risk organisations.

This course covers the basics of first aid according to the first aid regulations, specifically it will cover:

• Assessing the casualty
• Unconsciousness
• Injuries to bones, muscles and joints
• Eye injuries
• Poisoning
• Choking
• Client specific subjects including diabetes, epilepsy, allergic reactions etc.
• CPR Wounds and bleeding
• Burns and scalds
• Shock management
• Exposure to cold and heat
• Illness assessment

Additional topics (Forestry specific):

• Severe bleeding (i.e chainsaw injury)
• Crush injury
• Hypothermia
• Lyme Disease
• Suspension injuries

You will need to bring a pen and a notepad, a comprehensive visual handbook and Emergency Reference Manual is supplied and will cover all the information necessary. Students should also wear comfortable clothing and trousers are advisable. Refreshments are provided, but students are asked to bring their own packed lunch.

Cancellation policy

If it is necessary for you to cancel your booking for whatever reason, please inform us as soon as possible. Cancellation charges are applied in all cases as it is difficult to fill spaces made vacant by late cancellations. A full refund is given only if more than 3 weeks’ notice is given. See below for refund rates:

• Over 3 weeks’ cancellation notice: Full refund
• 2 -3 weeks cancellation notice: 50 % refund*
• Less than 14 days cancellation notice: No refund*

*Unless we are able to fill your place at short notice, in which case a full refund will be given

Alternatively, a place may be held until the following year if the delegate wishes to attend the course in the following year. No refund will be given for non-attendance or if no prior cancellation is given.

The New Forest Land Advice Service reserves the right to cancel or postpone any course up to the course date if insufficient bookings have been received. Places may also be held on these courses until an alternative date has been finalised.
