Emergency First Aid in the Workplace Course
An excellent opportunity for community and voluntary organisations to book onto the level 2 Emergency First Aid Course at Work. This would be suitable for identified volunteers or staff within organisations to become emergency first aiders at work.
The training course will be on Thursday 27th April 2017 at SVS Offices, Voluntary Action Centre, Kingsland Square, St Mary Street, Southampton SO14 1NW. Registration is at 9.45 for a 10 O’clock start – 4.30pm
Please book early as spaces are limited.
Tea and Coffee will be provided but not lunch, so either bring your own or purchase from local shops. There will be 2 scheduled breaks, one in the morning and one if the afternoon - drinks will be available throughout the day. Lunch will be for half an hour.
Your Level 2 Emergency First-Aid course will be taught by Phil Constable.
Phil is an experienced NUCO registered instructor. He is a retired police officer who served predominantly as a traffic officer and prior to his police service, served as a soldier in the British Army.
NUCO are a major training organisation and their first aid courses are both FAA (First Aid Awards) and Ofqual approved.
The course material and power point presentation are provided by NUCO training.
On successful completion of the course candidates will receive a Level 2 EFAW qualification and certificate, which will be valid for 3 years.
The course comprises 6 hours classroom based instruction and practical assessments at the end of which candidates will be required to sit a short written assessment paper.
The course syllabus covers the following subjects.
Legislation, responsibilities, actions to be taken in an emergency, primary survey and secondary assessment.
Also covered are the respiratory system, resuscitation, disorders of respiration, disorders of circulation, wounds and bleeding, epilepsy, minor burns and scalds and finally foreign objects.
Defibrillator awareness training will also be included in the schedule.
Candidates will be expected to demonstrate their skills as a first aider on classroom manikins and some role-play with other class delegates. Phil will assess these practical scenarios during the course of the day.
Bearing the practical scenarios in mind, candidates may be expected to take part in light physical activities, which may mean laying or knelling on the training room floor and of course getting up again. Nothing torturous!!
But please, if anyone is carrying an injury or may not be able to partake in the physical activities, please inform the instructor on the day.
Please wear comfortable and practical clothing and footwear.
All training materials and books will be provided for you on the day.
