On Sunday, October 1, 2017, Avon and Somerset Police are opening the doors to their Headquarters in Portishead to give local people the opportunity to see first-hand how the emergency services and partners work together to keep our communities safe.

This unique public sector event will involve displays and exhibitions, demonstrations and interactive activities showcasing the work of those who serve across Avon and Somerset. Beyond the Constabulary, this includes Avon Fire and Rescue Service, Devon and Somerset Fire and Rescue Service, South West Ambulance Service Foundation Trust, Somerset Air Ambulance, Avon Search and Rescue, Burnham Coastguard, Royal National Lifeboat Institution, HM Coastguard and many more.

We will also be celebrating the vital support provided by our communities themselves - neighbourhood watches, special constables, volunteers, community speedwatch – the often unnoticed individuals who give so much, all of whom are keen to share with visitors the reality of the work they do each and every day to keep us safe.

Our desire is for local people to have the opportunity to attend free of charge, with tickets being released in stages throughout the summer. Those who are able to join us will have the chance to see cars being cut open during safety demonstrations by firefighters and watch demonstrations by our horse and dog teams.

Whilst these showcase the many exciting aspects of public service, there will be activities for the whole family including face painting, sporting challenges, a climbing wall and races run by Avon and Somerset Force Club, gymnastic displays, choirs and stories of yesteryear from the Avon and Somerset Constabulary History and Heritage Group.

We expect many of the 7,500 visitors to spend the whole day on site and so we’ve arranged a variety of food outlets and picnic areas, as well as making available the opportunity for visitors to enjoy the woodland walks our grounds have to offer.
