We are delighted to be hosting the launch of Other Wild in conjuction with Peepal Tree Press, and to celebrate Emily Zobel Marshall, who is one of four Bookshop Day Ambassadors this year, on the 11th of October, which is in fact Bookshop Day 2025!
This outstanding second collection explores the lives of errant women andcreatures who refuse to adhere to official paths, and the liminal, boundarycrossing wildscapes of the land and heart. These tender, lyrical, daring poems learn from the natural world, throughimmersion and observation, to find new ways to reflect and adapt, as theycelebrate the ways our beings and bodies are inextricably entangled with the ever-changing landscapes and heartscapes of the dark woods, glittering rivers, windswept moors and towering mountains.
Emily Zobel Marshall is a Poet, Activist and Professor of French-Caribbean and British heritage and grew up in North Wales. She is Professor in Postcolonial Literature at Leeds Beckett University and her research specialisms are the cultures and literatures of the African Diaspora, with a focus on the folkloric trickster figure and Caribbean carnival cultures, and she is widely published in these fields. This year also happens to be Peepal Tree's 40th anniversary, even more reason to celebrate.
Other Wild is a glorious, various collection: embedded and embodied in the living world, zinging throughout with love, joy, passion, loss and profusion. Rivers flow and forests grow through it; memory here is made as much of matter as well as metaphor. The whole book pulses."— Robert MacFarlane
