The EMiT international conference is organised by a diverse group of researchers from across disciplines within the institution. It aims to bring together the brightest minds from both academia and industry to allow a knowledge exchange around the topic of using current cutting edge computing technology to solve scientific research problems. The goal is an event where people can communicate the exciting computing implications their research has had on the state of new computing technology.

The University of Manchester has a strong history in the field of innovative computing. Starting with the worlds first stored-program computer "The Baby" designed primarily by Prof. Kilburn, through to the pioneering modern day work of Prof. Steve Furber in his involvement with the ambitious Human Brain Project. 

IT Services supports researchers via initiatives such as research computing training, a regular newsletter and a variety of Clubs
