About this event
EMOM - Birmingham - Electronic Music Open Mic
Event Location: Centrala
EMOM is a global phenomenon: welcome to the Birmingham group. Come along with your synths, electronics and noise-machines or just turn up and listen. We offer an open environment for experimental performance and we want to grow this into a regular event.
EMOM is about electronic music. We are not hide-bound by what this means and are always open to be challenged by your sounds. The only rule is no acoustic instruments unless they are being used to generate soundscapes or some other style of music in keeping with these nights.
We are running this as a "pay what you feel" event and the tickets are free. We will take a collection on the night. We operate an inclusive door policy and expect that the audience and performers will be supportive of each other.
We have two types of tickets - audience tickets and performance tickets. If you wish to perform, please book a performance ticket (there are ten of these and a waitlist, should they run out). There is no need for performers to book an audience ticket.

We also have a website and feature the performers on it - https://sites.google.com/view/birmingham-emom/home

Frequently asked questions
We are working with the PA system, lighting, etc. provided by Centrala.
This really depends on what you are able to carry, set-up and take down again. You should bring all the kit you will need, power supplies and basic cabling (especially if you have specific cable needs). There is the capacity to have video projection as well, should you need it.
Your set should be set-up, performed and taken down again in 20 minutes. If you search on YouTube for "EMOM", you will find some excellent examples of the events in practice. You should book a performer ticket here before turning up.
This is the ideal space for trying stuff out. We expect both seasoned performers and first-timers to take part, as well as for people trying out new things to come along. We expect the audience to be mainly people who understand live electronic music and to be supportive.
We are running the whole event on a "pay what you feel" basis, cash on the night. We think that this is the most cost-efficient way of doing it and doesn't exclude anyone for reasons of money.
Centrala is based in the Minerva Works and recently they have started asking people parking to register their car with the venue; there are not many parking spaces at the Minerva Works. There is plenty of on-street parking outside the venue and this is free after 18.00.
There is a bike rack inside the Minerva Works compound. There are places to lock bikes on the small quay next to the canal. (The canal is not accessible to the public from this side.)
