Description

Supporting boys to talk about and manage their feelings

Who is it for? PHSE co-ordinators, Inclusion Managers, Pastoral Support Staff, Teaching Assistants, Heads of Year, SENCO’s, Family Key Workers, Parent Advisors, Behaviour and Attendance Officers and Youth Workers.

Why this is important? From a young age boys can be given negative messages about expressing their feelings. They are still often told ‘boys don’t cry’ or to ‘man up’. This gendered internalisation of what boys and men should do with their emotions can prevent them from understanding their feelings, seeking help or feeling safe enough to tell others about their experiences. The impact of this is great and can lead to poor mental health, emotional shut down or aggressive behaviour. This workshop explores the barriers to boys talking about their emotions and safe ways boys can express their feelings and develop self-care. We will unmask what masculinity really means and discuss how we can reframe boys’ perception of it.

We want to support YOU to provide the right support for children and young people
