World Suicide Prevention Day is an awareness day observed on 10 September every year, in order to provide worldwide commitment and action to prevent suicides, with various activities around the world since 2003. In the UK, men are three times as likely to die by suicide than women. In the Republic of Ireland, the rate is four times higher among men than women. While there has been a reduction in the number of people completing suicide over the last ten years, the numbers are still worryingly high. World Suicide Prevention Day aims to start the conversation about suicide and to show that recovery is possible.

The Star of Kings is a great venue comprising of a large pub, and below it is where we will be dancing the day and evening away in their cool little basement. The whole place has a great feel and vibe, with plenty of areas to move around if you want to chill for a bit outside the main space.

A s always, we will be adding a special unobtrusive awareness layer to this event, which you will discover all around the space. There will be a merch stall to purchase MU4MH goodies and music-related items like classic album releases and books related to music and mental health. Also, look out for lots of freebies around the venue.

As always, w e will have mental health first aiders on site, so if you are a little uncertain about attending, please be sure you are 100% welcome and you will be looked after. Our first aiders check on our attendees throughout the day, too. Feel free to get in touch to discuss this further.

A portion of the profits from this event go towards providing DJ Workshops, which we run with On The Rise DJ Academy in Wembley, London. These Workshops provide a creative outlet for anyone wanting to try something new or use them as a tool to distract you from your thoughts or everyday life. Music is powerful, and that's why we do what we do. We all use music to boost our well-being, too. 🙂

Whether you DJ, produce music, play an instrument, love a gig or festival or just like to listen to music and dance like no one's watching, music has so much to offer.

Its multiple systems can interact to produce benefits for mental health and social wellbeing,

both by integrating our thinking

and emotions and helping us

Connect with others and improve our well-being.

Music is key, and music has an all-encompassing power to change our mood and get us through the most difficult of times. 🥰

MORE ABOUT MUSIC UNITY FOR MENTAL HEALTH:

We are a music organization based in Chelmsford, Essex, using the power and magic of music to help with people's mental health and wellbeing. This is done by holding music events around the UK and online, plus other projects including DJ/Music workshops, volunteering, online talks and get togethers.. By making the cause the priority at all of our events, we raise awareness and create conversations about mental health, breaking down the barriers and stigma.

Our event environments are fun, informative, friendly and safe, and they have qualified Mental Health first aiders always onsite. We try to allow everyone to have a voice and support the cause even if they find it difficult to talk about their struggles, people are able to use music as an outlet. DJs/Clubbers/Volunteers/Venue staff all have this creative platform to express their support for the cause and to also help themselves. We also signpost anyone who needs help to relevant services.
