Event description

Description

The University of Southampton is very pleased to be hosting Professor Dawn Bennett, lead researcher in the Developing Employability Initiative at the Curtin University Australia, to speak about her new model of Employability.

Professor Bennett believes that employability is NOT about getting a job, but rather the ability to create and sustain a meaningful life and work. Her approach helps students to shape their work and career into what they need and want as individuals.

To date her initiative has helped: educators to embed employability thinking into their curriculum; has helped students shape their future work and career: and created datasets needed for research into students’ thinking about their studies and their future lives and careers.

This workshop will feature resources, strategies and research opportunities to develop students’ self and career awareness in curriculum.

Dawn Bennett is Distinguished Professor of Higher Education with Curtin University. With a discipline background in music education and performance, her research focuses on the development of employability, including identity and graduate work. In her work as a National Senior Australian Learning and Teaching Fellow, Dawn is operationalising a metacognitive model for employability with faculty and students in Australia, the UK, Europe and the US. Publications appear at Academia.edu.
