The health and wellbeing of millions of people at work is one the most important business issues of our time.
Sickness absence costs UK employers £8.4 billion a year and presenteeism is estimated to cost the UK economy even more - around £15bn per year. That’s double the cost of absenteeism alone (Centre for Mental Health).
The number of people suffering work-related stress in the UK has also doubled since the 90s (Work Foundation Council) and in 2014/15, stress accounted for 43% of all working days lost due to ill health and for 34% of all work related ill health cases (HSE).
With the UK at the bottom of the G7 and near the bottom of the G20 countries in terms of productivity per capita, the way we manage people and create a culture that enhances employee wellbeing are now bottom line issues.
