TOPIC OVERVIEW

Cyber Security as a Wicked Problem

Speaker: Dave Clemente

Data breaches and hacking make headlines on a weekly basis, and Board members and bored teenagers agree that cyber security is growing in importance. But you knew that already.

The real question is; why is cyber security such a challenging issue? With all the attention and resources being devoted to making improvements, surely there must be an easier way. This talk will examine the characteristics that make cyber security so complex - or ‘wicked’ – and will offer some solutions, which you are invited to attempt to deflate.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dave Clemente is the head of cyber security research at Deloitte UK, where he examines security challenges across sectors while resisting the use of words like ‘leverage’ or ‘synergy’. He was a researcher at the Information Security Forum and the Royal Institute of International Affairs (Chatham House). His areas of expertise include technology and cyber security policy, and he has authored numerous publications and appeared regularly in the media. He has a BA in International Relations and a MA in Near and Middle East Studies.
