What is an Employer Talk?
Employer Talks are a great opportunity for current and previous students. Representatives from Engineering companies, some of which are Swansea Alumni members, attend the College to host talks and present to you on the following:
- Who the company is and what they do
- Details of placement and graduate opportunities available in the company
- Tips for applying for opportunities within the company
- Details of the recruitment process
- Own individual experiences
After this, there will be an informal Q&A and networking session over refreshments (usually pizza!) where you will have the opportunity to network with the company representatives and ask any questions you may have.
How can it benefit me?
You will find out really important and useful information about all of the above directly from the company representatives themselves. This includes, but is not limited to, how someone working for the company got to where they are today and the opportunities available to you. You will also gain some tips on how you can have the best chance of being recruited too! These talks provide a uniquely personal opportunity that shouldn't be missed.
How can I engage with the employer?
After the talk, there will be an opportunity to meet the talk host/s and introduce yourself; you can also ask them any questions you might have. We encourage that you take along a copy of your CV to the talk, and also come prepared with thought out questions.
What should I do during and after the talk?
During the talk, take note of any important details including available opportunities, application details including deadlines and company contacts. You can also find out if the talk host has LinkedIn and keep connected this way.
Remember, your Engineering Employability Team is on hand for any advice or support that you need; best of luck!
