Between our team and our guest speaker, Craig Jones MBE, we hope to give you an insight into some of the key priorities employers need to be aware of in order to shape their workforce to withstand these challenging times whilst laying the foundations for future growth.

Craig Jones MBE, is the Executive Chair of Fighting With Pride and joined the Royal Navy in 1989. During his career he was deployed to Northern Ireland and the Arabian Gulf as well as carrying out a number of intelligence roles. On the day of the lifting of the ‘gay ban’, Craig came out and led immensely challenging work to encourage bold support for LGBT+ personnel and families, which was against the thinking of service chiefs in those early years. His work with the serving communities of the Armed Forces transformed them to become the most inclusive Armed Forces in the world and he was appointed a Member of the Order of the British Empire in 2005.

After leaving the Royal Navy in 2008, Craig became the Head of Diversity for Barclays Bank and his work is credited with increasing the number of senior female hires and female clients in the business globally. Barclays won the ‘Opportunity Now’ award for gender diversity in 2010. In 2011, in a bold move into another career, Craig created multi-award-winning NHS mental healthcare provider Brighton and Sussex Care. He completed a sale of the business in 2015.

On the 20th anniversary of the lifting of the Armed Forces ‘gay ban’ Craig edited and published the anthology book 'Fighting With Pride’, in which he recognised that the veterans most affected by the ban have suffered a catastrophic breach of the Armed Forces Covenant. With the authors he founded the charity FWP in January 2020.

In response to FWPs campaign, the Prime Minister made an apology in Parliament on behalf of the State on 19th July 2023 and announced that reparations are to be made to the many hundreds of veterans who were arrested, imprisoned and dismissed during the years of the ban.

Away from leading discussions with the Government on the reparations, Craig lives in Brighton with his husband and partner of 30 years.
