Event Details

Following the success of our first Employment Law Day in 2016 we will be running another all day law event in 2017. The format for the day will be the same as last year with a keynote session that all delegates will attend followed by a series of workshops. Delegates will have the opportunity to choose 3 workshops to attend throughout the day. There will be a maximum number of delegates per workshop. You will choose the workshops you wish to attend as part of the registration process on the day. Please note places will be allocated to the workshops on a first come basis.

The Employment Law Day 2017 is kindly sponsored by Veale Wasbrough Vizards who will deliver the keynote session.

Keynote Session:-

Employment Law Experts from Veale Wasbrough Vizards will deliver a session on 'The rise of the gig economy - impact on working practices and employment status

Workshops:-

 1)    Case Studies on the Misuse of Social Media in the Workplace by Ashfords

 

 2)    Employment Contract – Pitfalls and Tips by Barcan+Kirby

The employment contract is often at the heart of the relationship between employers and employees. This workshop will cover a range of issues to ensure that employment contracts are legally compliant and provide protection for the employer.

Barcan+Kirby will provide legal and practical guidance in relation to the following specific areas: implied terms, express terms and varying employment contracts.

Please note that this workshop will not cover non-standard contracts or termination of the contract.

        

3)    Investigations by Bevan Brittan

This workshop will focus on the practical aspects of managing employee investigations. Bevan Brittan will look at the legal framework surrounding employee investigations, how to plan an investigation, practical and legal issues of obtaining evidence. The session will include a group case study to work through a disciplinary investigation.

  

4)    Data Protection by Clarke Willmott

This workshop will take a look at how the introduction of the EU General Data Protection Regulations into UK law will impact upon all UK employers. The changes to data protection are far reaching and the penalties for non-compliance hefty. Clarke Willmott will set out what employers need to know and what systems they need to be putting in place now to make sure they are fully compliant when the regulations come into force. Clarke Willmott we will also review the changes to data subject access requests and provide practical advice on how to deal with them effectively and swiftly with minimal disruption.

 

5)    Managing Mental Ill Health at Work by DAC Beachcroft

This workshop will outline the legal pitfalls:

  • Including the obligation to make reasonable adjustments) and explore practical solutions.

 

 6)    Gender Pay Gap and Equal Pay by Menzies Law 

This workshop will include:

  • An overview of exactly what the gender pay gap is
  • Where it came from and actions that can help close it
  • A reminder of the key aspects of equal pay
  • A review of employers’ key equal pay risks
  • An update on the developments and increase in equal pay claims and the latest themes coming through
  • The latest information we have on what sort of gender pay gaps there are out there
  • News on what employers are doing to close their gaps and tackle their equal pay issues
  • Latest developments in how employers are reporting their data and explaining their gaps in their ‘narrative’ that accompanies their figures 
  • A number of important take-away suggestions and tips on the very best things to be doing to promote and also protect employers in respect of pay equality

This workshop will be an engaging, lively talk with infographics, anecdotes and practical tips.

      

 7)    Avoiding the Tribunal – Managing Disciplinary and Performance by Osborne Clarke

This workshop will be a collaborative and interactive session.

Charges: CIPD Members Including Students - £50 plus VAT and Non Members - £80 plus VAT.
